In the second part of my Norway series it becomes abstract!
From time to time I'm fascinated by colours and shapes of landscape details. I would like to photograph these more often, but in nearby places I rarely see motifs that seem suitable to me, here I need to get better!
In Norway, it was different; I often had to weigh whether to implement these scenes or to make another landscape shot. Because especially for the shots with longer exposures I need some time and a lot of shutter releases until the panning movement exactly supports the shape or colours of the subject. To be clear: when shooting an eagle owl in flight, I have significantly less waste than with this type of photography 🙄
The pictures with this kind of look were all taken by hand. Even if these are technically possible with the tripod, I lack the spontaneity and creativity.
Two things fascinated me in particular:
1. the structures in the sand - my goodness, great shapes are created there at low tide. The small creeks from the mountains wash darker sediments over the actually white sand beaches. With the use of a polarizing filter, these patterns look great. Sometimes I had to tear myself away from it to capture one or the other landscape motif. I had already seen these structures on my last visit and tried my best, but I didn't like any of the pictures at home - I couldn't really convey the effect. This time I devoted myself to these forms at 3 beaches for a very long time and hope to be able to transport the fascination.
2. the color contrasts - when I photograph birch trees or other beautiful details of the landscape here in Germany, the background colour is usually characterized by a sky or a forest. In Norway, these details are often on the edge of the fjords and then the background is either a (usually coloured) mountain or the dark blue water. These are quite great contrasts that I can't get enough of.
To bring a little variety into it, I show you the sand structures practically in alternation with the colourful pictures. Enough words - I wish you now a lot of fun with the series.
Best regards,
Thomas
I hope you enjoyed the series 😃 Many greetings🖐
