Iceland 2024 (Part 1): Landscapes and their details

Today I can finally show you something new from nature again ๐Ÿ˜€ This June, I was once again able to lead a photo trip along some of Iceland's highlights - this time, for once, without Christina, who is naturally devoting herself to other things shortly before the birth of our baby ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย

Our friend Christian Binder, with whom we have already successfully organised photo trips and workshops in the past, stepped in instead.

6 participants took part on the 14-day adventure travelling around the entire island. And it was clear: in summer, we would be taking photos at night so that we would have the spots all to ourselves ๐Ÿ˜€

ย

At the end of the trip, I can tell you in advance that we had a lot of fun, a lot of great moments and also some epic photo conditions.

ย

But at the beginning of the trip, the Icelandic weather was challenging: the first 5 days were very cold for summer, with just 2ยฐC at night and very windy. A lot of snow also fell between days 3 and 5, which meant that many roads were closed, including many parts of the ring road. Especially in the north the snowfall didn't stop, as you can see from this screenshot (pink = snow):

Unfortunately, we were unable to visit Godafoss, for example, but we made the best of it and spent time analysing images, preparing for the next stops and learning a few tricks.

As the roads gradually opened up again, we drove for hours through the snow from Akureyri to Bakkagerdi and were glad to have left the "low mountain range" behind us. The locals haven't experienced weather conditions like this in June for many years. Here's a picture of Christian driving ahead in the second car:

The remaining days, however, we had the light and weather all the more on our side. We alternated between landscape photography and animal and plant photography and enjoyed nature. In the end, we travelled a total of 3,600 km.

Before the photo sessions, we enjoyed some of Iceland's culinary highlights and then set off for the night's photo sessions. I have to say, you can eat damn well in Iceland and I've included a small selection of our delicacies below ๐Ÿ˜…

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our participants Christiane, Michael, Barbara, Peter, Ilja and Henning for the wonderful time ๐Ÿ˜€

And I would also like to thank my super co-guide Christian and of course Kathrin Brockmann from Brockmann Phototravel for organising and taking responsibility for this trip ๐Ÿ‘‹

Oh there was something else - photos! I've picked out my top 50 photos for you and divided them into 2 parts: starting today with landscapes and their details and in the second part there's some Icelandic fauna and flora again this year.

There were - also for me - some highlights, which I will go into in more detail in the picture texts.

I hope you enjoy the pictures ๐Ÿ‘‹
