The third part of my Portugal series consists of shots that were taken spontaneously along the way. I had a few of these ‘encounters’ with beautiful small and large landscape details again this year.
I particularly remember a beach in the north, which we explored with the whole photo group and where wonderful stone structures appeared on the rock faces, as well as a rock on the south coast, from which you could photograph waves in the morning, in which the illuminated sandstone was reflected.
I prefer to use the very powerful yet flexible Nikon Z 24-120 for such detail shots, but this year I have also used the 28-400, which Christina has had in her camera bag for a few months now, from time to time, for the wave shots for example. The image quality is really very solid for the extreme focal length range. Especially in the 150-400mm range, this is really useful for shots where you have to stop down significantly anyway.
By the way - after the last two series, I was asked several times what the temperatures are like in the Algarve at this time of year? It can get very cold in the morning (especially when there are no clouds). So you need a thick jacket for the morning session. Last week there were even 2 days with ground frost in the morning. In the afternoon, however, it is so warm (approx. 14-19 degrees) that you can even walk around in a T-shirt in the sun. Actually a nice mix, as you have nice temperatures at night for a good night's sleep 😉
During the group photo tour, we sometimes had more clouds and a little rain, then the temperatures softened and the mornings can get warm. But that's not the case in many (good weather) weeks there. In the first and third week it was ‘fresh’ again this time.
Now I hope you enjoy the pictures in this series. The last part will be available in a few days.
Many greetings,
Thomas
I hope you enjoyed the series 👋
