Winter hide part 1: our native forest birds

It has now been 2 years since I „met“ the feathered inhabitants of our local forests on a winter hide last time. I have done that  again from time to time over the past few weeks...

This time it was a little different - a very specific bird species caught my attention, the rare grey-headed woodpecker 😊Capturing it in a really photogenic way required a lot of patience and focus - so to be honest, the first part is more of a ‘by-product’ of the actual photo project this time.

But I think they're pretty nice supporting actors 😅

Above all, I had a few moments with the bullfinch, which is always my personal highlight in the „Sauerland“, especially the pink/red coloured male.  But the bramblings, yellowhammers, hawfinches, middle spotted woodpeckers, pine tits, starlings and great spotted woodpeckers are also always great to see up close (looking out of a hatch) and are real highlights.

I would like to leave it at that today - in the second part there will be much more information about them and, above all, a big thank you 😉

The pictures were taken with two Nikon Z8s on a 600/4 TC-S and a 600/6.3 PF.

From Sunday, Christina, Ben and I will be spending the rest of March on the Balearic Islands, where we'll be enjoying the Mallorcan spring for the next 4 weeks. Even though the first part of our parental leave is the main focus here, the Supertele will certainly not get completely rusty, as there is some great avifauna here too...

I hope you enjoy the pictures and best wishes,
Thomas
